The comfortable guest rooms are individually furnished with century-old rustic furniture in an elegant Salzburg country house style and have all modern amenities. The hotel meets the needs of its international guests in every aspect.
Since the day Countess Harriet Walderdorff reopened the Hotel Goldener Hirsch in 1948, exceptional service and commitment to excellence has been a constant. While maintaining the hotel’s authentic heritage, we also offer guests a myriad of contemporary amenities. From exquisite In-Room Dining to the signature Luxury Collection Concierge, Business Center, and more, we strive to anticipate guests’ every need and desire.
The current renovation of the hotel Goldener Hirsch will be completed by June, 2019. It is being carried out with great caution and the utmost care due to the listed building's historic character: “The renovation of such a traditional house demands a lot of sensitivity”, confirms the hotel owner Hans-Peter Wild. “We would like to preserve the style of the house and dare a new interpretation of tradition. It requests the right amount of modernization without changing the heritage and the atmosphere of the hotel.”
The Luxury Collection Hotel is being carefully renovated from the roof to the cellar using targeted modernization measures with a lot of sensitivity and feeling for the building, finding the right amount of modernization without changing the history, legacy and heritage as well as the unique ambience of the hotel. The Hotel Goldener Hirsch is now brought to state-of-the-art hotel technology. The entire house technology is renewed and the kitchen will expand resulting in numerous improvements for the guests and employees.
The 70 guest rooms are modernized, partially expanded to suites and barrier-free designed as far as possible. The traditional country house style of Salzburg will be cautiously revived. The existing bathrooms of the guest area will be renewed entirely. The partially antique and handmade furnishings, reminding of our 600 years old history, will be refurbished. Our guests will enjoy the historical furniture shining in new splendor in their rooms. The fabric company Jordis from Salzburg provides the textile update of all interiors, in order to preserve the familiar ambience of the “Hirsch”.
The Goldener Hirsch is as closely tied to Salzburg, as is the Getreidegasse, the street in which the hotel is located. Founded and first mentioned in a document in 1407, this well-established institution of Salzburg lived through centuries of change. The “Goldene Hirsch”, as it is called today, was decisively coined by the family Walderdorff, who purchased the hotel in 1939.
In 1564 first documented as “Güldener Hirsch”, Caspar Beichtner purchases the house with the number 256 in 1596. Thus, Caspar Beichtner became the first host of the “Güldenen Hirschen”.
The countess Harriet Gräfin Walderdorff started running the business in 1948. Resources were scarce at the time, however, the countess succeeded in conveying the flair of an elegant and high class private house at Getreidegasse 37 with carefully selected old farmhouse furniture. In 1948, the Hotel Goldener Hirsch reopened its doors the way we know it today and the “golden years” have started.
In June 2019 the Hotel Goldener Hirsch will reopen its doors for guests from all over the world.
